If the metaphor of „brain fog“ tries to capture a state in which thinking is blocked, and if film is the medium of thinking, then this state should be possible to reconstruct through a film.

As an essay-film, the work „NEBEL“ takes the form of a thought process, reflecting on the use and meaning of fog in recent film history, on the functioning of metaphor, and on this way on the materiality of the medium and of thought itself. The process of thinking is thereby shaped as a material in a way that transcends the metaphorical in the expression of „being foggy“ and the state is reshaped in consciousness. To achieve this, the concept of a three-dimensional montage was developed for „NEBEL“. The film is divided into 9 chapters, each of which touches on a thematic aspect and fulfills its own function in the mechanics, which is to make the state of „being befogged“ tangible in its origin, mode of action and (social) consequence. The chapters are spatially separated in a virtual space that represents the reconstruction of a head-space. The camera moves through these chapters. Thus, a spatial montage is added to the usual temporal one, simulating the process of separation and re-actualization of strands of thought.
